Statement on the Schmidt Case and Proposed Commission of Inquiry

Anarkismo (en) - Tue, 03/28/2017 - 05:50
In our last statement on the Michael Schmidt case and accusations by journalists Alexander Reid Ross and Joshua Stephens that he is a fascist and white nationalist that attempted to infiltrate the anarchist movement, we said that the Anarkismo network had decided “to call for a commission of enquiry to investigate more closely both the accusations and the defence, and to make recommendations to the broader anarchist movement based on their findings”.

Regrettably it has been over a year since we announced our intention to convene a commission of inquiry and it has not yet materialised.

While we have recently started making progress once again on the call for a commission and will continue to work towards finalizing our proposal and framework, however, we have also had enough time now to debate aspects of the case both within and between some of the organisations in the network.

New developments and information concerning the case have also come to our attention that must be addressed immediately.

March 25 was planned by some liberal opposition leaders as the day of the biggest protest against Lukashenko’s policies this year, the biggest in the wave of recent anti-government demonstrations that started in February this year. It ended with the biggest police mobilization in years bringing thousands of riot cops to Minsk and detaining hundreds of people before and during the demonstration. Last Saturday, the capital of Belarus looked like a war zone created by the police.

Nuevas Amenazas Paramilitares Contra La Liberación De La Tierra En El Cauca

Anarkismo - Sun, 03/26/2017 - 21:02

Former employees of Max Telecom, along with anarchosyndicalists from ARS (Autonomous Worker’s Union) organised a picket demanding the immediate payment of all unpaid wages.

Dickheads from management had to flee and leave the offices empty, so we put our messages on them and on the locked doors of the premises. Then we blocked the road to Sofia Airport. If you don’t pay our salaries, next time our actions will not be as 'symbolic'! Angry worker

Reactionary Working Class?

Anarkismo (en) - Thu, 03/16/2017 - 17:51
Large parts of the western working class now seem to gather around right populists, demagogues, and racists. They vote for reactionary and fascistoid political parties. They helped to vote the UK out of the EU and to make Trump president of the world's superpower number one, and they vote so massively for the far right political parties that the latter have government power in sight throughout several of Europe's most populous countries.

Review: The Poverty of Philosophy by Karl Marx

Anarchist Writers - Tue, 03/14/2017 - 08:54

This year (2017) marks the 170th anniversary of the publication of Karl Marx’s The Poverty of Philosophy, written in “reply” to Pierre-Joseph Proudhon’s System of Economic Contradictions published the year before. The book’s title is a play on the subtitle of Proudhon’s two volumes (“or, the Philosophy of Poverty”) and for Trotskyist Ernest Mandel “the prototype of that sort of implacable polemical writing which has often inspired the pens of Marx’s followers”.

Our Freedom Is In Our Struggle

Anarkismo (en) - Wed, 03/08/2017 - 04:14
This article was published on the 37th issue of Meydan Newspaper.
"First, by asserting herself as a personality, and not as a sex commodity. Second, by refusing the right to anyone over her body; by refusing to bear children, unless she wants them; by refusing to be a servant to God, the State, society, the husband, the family, etc., by making her life simpler, but deeper and richer. That is, by trying to learn the meaning and substance of life in all its complexities, by freeing herself from the fear of public opinion and public condemnation. Only that, and not the ballot, will set woman free."

IWD 2017: Celebrating a new revolution

Anarkismo (en) - Tue, 03/07/2017 - 14:58
This time around, let’s fight for workers’ control from the start. Let’s create structures with checks and balances that ensure workers keep control. Let us not hand over power to a state that can institute tyranny all over again. We want anarchist communist organisation. Workers' delegation. Equable procedures. Bottom up organisation. It is 100 years since women workers began the 1917 revolution. Let’s do it again! The time for global revolution is here!

Thousands of children were starved to death at state funded homes run by nuns in Tuam and elsewhere in Ireland

Anarchist Writers - Mon, 03/06/2017 - 10:25

It is emerging that thousands of children were starved to death in state funded homes run by nuns in Ireland. The Daily Mail today carries a detailed report which quotes Philip Redmond, a survivor of Sean Ross Abbey Hospital, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary where of the 167 babies born in 1942, there were 72 deaths. Mr Redmond says "As far as Bessborough is concerned, there is little doubt in our minds that as many as 2,000 died while we believe another 1,200 died in Sean Ross Abbey" This figures are to be added to the estimated 796 bodies found in a waste tank in the grounds of then Tuam home - see the earlier piece on this page.

Irish Times publishes manipulative poll days ahead of 8th of March ‘Strike for Repeal’ actions

Anarchist Writers - Fri, 03/03/2017 - 10:50

The Irish Times has yet again made an entirely cynical intervention in its bid to force its agenda on the campaign to get rid of the hated 8th Amendment. This time in the form of an opinion poll constructed to reinforce the idea that abortion is a constitutional issue rather than a medical one.
